In ZvZ, keep at least 5-10 meters between you and nearby allies. In castle or objective room fights, position so you have an escape route rather than being boxed in. The moment you see multiple cloth-wearers with fire staves hovering at the edge of your screen, spread out immediately. A bomb squad that dives into a spread formation deals 10% of its potential damage — the same squad that catches a clump deletes everyone. Spreading costs you nothing, but failing to spread costs you your gear.
2Recognizing Bomb Squad Gear and Intent
Bomb squads are surprisingly easy to identify once you know what to look for. The classic indicators are Fiend Robes (a distinct red-orange cloth chest with a skull motif), Mage Robes (pale blue cloth), and fire staff weapons clustered on multiple players. If you see 3-5 players in similar cloth armor with fire or cursed staves hanging at the edge of a fight instead of engaging, they are almost certainly lining up a bomb. Never sit in doorways, narrow corridors, or objective capture points — these are prime bomb kill zones because players naturally clump there. Use terrain features like walls and pillars to break line of sight, forcing bomb squads to commit their mobility before reaching you. Assign one or two players in your group as flank watchers whose job is to scan the fight perimeter and call out suspicious movement. When a bomb squad does dive, the instinct to run away is wrong — instead, counter-charge through them or strafe perpendicular to their approach vector. This makes it harder for them to land their full combo on you and often puts you behind their lines for easy kills.
6Consumables and Reactions for Surviving a Bomb
When the bomb comes, split-second reactions and the right consumables are the difference between death and a clean escape. Carry Gigantify Potions — the massive HP shield gives your healer time to react and your team time to spread. Invisibility Potions instantly break enemy targeting and let you reposition while the bomb squad looks for new targets. Guardian Boots (Fortify) or Soldier Boots (Wanderlust or CC immunity) give you the mobility and defenses to survive the initial burst. For food, beef stew or pork omelette for general survivability. Designate one or two flank watchers who keep their camera panned to the fight periphery and call out cloth players approaching. Establish voice communication callouts for bomb squad directions (e.g., "three cloth on north flank, ready to spread"). In larger groups, position a counter-squad of your own — melee players with knockbacks who sit on the flank you expect the bomb to come from. Practice spread drills so your group instinctively fans out on voice command. The groups that survive bomb squads consistently are the ones that treat bomb defense as a game mechanic to master, not a random event to suffer through.
